Ideal for both experienced cyclists and enthusiastic beginners, these paths offer a glimpse into the island's diverse scenery - from panoramic sea views to hidden historical villages. Route 1 - 16 km

Starting Point: Hotel Platanista

Terrain: Asphalt

This picturesque route begins at the Hotel Platanista, leading cyclists and hikers through a captivating journey across diverse landscapes. The initial phase of the journey covers 7 km, passing through Agios Nektarios (3.5 km) and Platani (5.6 km) to reach the historic Asklepieion. The path is entirely paved, offering a comfortable ride or walk.

After the Asclepieion, the route takes an upward turn, starting a gradual ascent through an arid landscape. This segment offers a stunning view of the Kos plain and the surrounding islands, a reward for the challenging climb. The terrain becomes more forested as you approach Dikaios, with the path becoming more regular and shaded.

At the 12.5 km mark, the abandoned village of Agios Dimitrios (Haïhoutes) presents a worthwhile detour. Following this, the route passes through Assomatos village (15 km), home to the homonymous church, before culminating in the enchanting village of Zia at 16 km. The entire course, though lengthy and demanding, rewards with breathtaking views and a rich experience of Kos's natural and cultural beauty.

This adventurous route, tailored for experienced mountain bikers and hikers, reveals the lesser-known facets of Kos island. Starting from the Hotel Platanista, the journey quickly introduces a mix of terrains, blending paved and dirt paths.

The route hits its first landmark at 3.5 km, at the intersection of Iatrou Mylona and Mitropoliti Nathanail roads, near the St. Nektarios monastery. It then proceeds along St. Nektarios road, reaching a military camp at the 6.6 km mark, where it veers left onto a dirt road.

This path leads to a challenging section featuring a crossroads with a steep uphill dirt road. The route continues straight on, crossing a small stream, and then sharply ascends to the 8.5 km mark, reaching a mountain shelter.

From the shelter, the path turns right (westward), offering panoramic mountain views. The journey includes a serene stop at the Krionero spring (11.6 km), surrounded by large trees - an ideal spot for a break. The final stretch involves a steep uphill ride towards the forest road of Monagri, winding through 5.5 km of splendid natural scenery.

The route concludes with a left turn at a cemetery crossroads, followed by a 1 km ride on an asphalt road leading directly to Zia village. This route is not just a physical challenge but a journey through diverse landscapes, culminating in the stunning mountain vistas of Kos.
